MAIN VOLCANOES AND MOUNTAINS

The magnificent sight of the Andes, called bt Humboldt the "Avenue of Volcanoes".

COTACACHI : Snow-capped volcano which belong to the Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve. From here you will see the Avenue of Volcanoes and its surroundings.
COTOPAXI : The amazing Cotopaxi or "Moon Neck", a wonderful volcano considered to be the highest active volcano on the Earth and one of the most beautiful ones.

CHIMBORAZO: Snow-capped Mountain whose main feature is to be the highest place on the Earth measured from the center of the planet according to Humboldt. Nowadays, astronauts testify that this mountain is the only one that can be seen from the space, since it is the highest from the center of the planet and the closest point to the sun. Difficult to climb owing to the altitude, it is possihble to get the first shelter by car.

CAYAMBE : Scary and dangerous place for those who want to visit it, has a very high amount of difficulty.
ANTISANA : This volcano is spectacular. It is part of the protected area of the same name. Beautiful lagoons. It is possible for camping and fishing.
TUNGURAHUA : A very active volcano. It is near from the population of Baños and its threat of eruption in the year 1999 caused the evacuation of this village.
SANGAY: The mysterious and almost unknown active volcano Sangay, part of the natural protected area of the same name, considered a Natural Heritage of Mankind..
ILLINIZAS : Twin peaks which belong to the Illinizas Ecological reserve.

PICHINCHA : Our capital, Quito, is on the skirt of this volcano. Also during the year 1999 it had some eruption of ashes that worried the city (it made hard to breath and the ashes made some damages to the carse and airplanes). Nowadays, it is sleeping again. Also it is famous in our history because we got the independence from the Spaniards here.

COAST: Major diverse areas are Guayaquil Gulf, Cerro Blanco, Salinas, Punta Carnero, Machalilla National Park, Machala, Arenillas, Santo Domingo, Rio Palenque, Atacames, Muisne. HIGHLANDS: The most accessible sites are El Angel Paramo, Quito, Mindo, Papallacta, San Lorenzo, San Rafael and Baeza.
